Meet our local Singers . . . Connie & Danny Rumsey
Connie & Danny Rumsey sing Karaoke at Don Perico’s in Bakersfield

Our roving reporter caught up Connie & Danny Rumsey at Don Perico’s restaurant late one Saturday night and talked with them about their Karaoke singing.

It first began about ten years ago for the couple when some friends invited them to go out to a Karaoke club. They had a lot of fun, and according to Danny Rumsey “it just took off from there.”

Now they sing in public “any chance we get”, said Danny, “every weekend we like to be out someplace”. From

Senior Trailer Parks to Don Perico’s restaurant, they’ve really taken their social hobby and made it a full time passion. They have their own Karaoke system and are proud to claim a 300+ disc collection. As far as who they like to sing, Danny says his favorite artist is Conway Twitty, and he particularly loves to sing “Hello Darlin’”. Connie says she prefers Lacey Jay Dalton, with “Black Coffee” as one of her favorites.

Though they have been paid to perform, even filling in one night at at their favorite venue. The Rumsey’s are in it for the love of the music and the chance to be in pleasant company. They don’t see themselves auditioning for the next American Idol, but singing and chatting for the rest of their lives in the friend-filled rooms on Karaoke night. On Saturdays, it’s not unusual to find them hanging out with the likes of local favorite Elvis (a.k.a. Jimmy Bee) who is a regular at Don Pericos.
